Thanksgiving = Best Holiday!

I'm so excited that Thanksgiving is finally here! People never believe me when I tell them that it's my favorite holiday of them all...yes, even more so than my birthday. Seriously, it's about food {who doesn't love food?} and family {I love my family!}- it doesn't really get much better than that. The only thing that would make it better is if I could see EVERYONE in my family...but, if you know how HUGE my family is, then you know just how hard that would be!

This year, Jimmy and I are heading down to his parents to spend a few days in the little town of Taylor. Jimmy's mom makes a pretty great Thanksgiving meal...one that definitely rivals my mom's. It will be 3 days of hanging out and just relaxing with the Wrights, Cmereks and maybe a few Naizers. One of the nights will most likely consist of all of us hanging out around a {relatively} small bonfire and telling a few stories, mostly lies. I'm hoping to be able to stay up as late as they usually do, so I can remove myself from the "no-fun club".

In keeping with this wonderful holiday, here a few things I'm thankful for:
*my husband
*my family
*my friends, i.e. extended family
*my beautiful home
*my kitty
*my education
*my job
*my life, thus far

I hope everyone has a restful and blessing-filled Thanksgiving!

Our first DIY project...

One gallon of paint, a few paint brushes, 1 roller and a cracked/bruised rib later...our master bathroom is painted and it looks great! See....

We are really happy with the color we chose...cornflower blue (although I don't think it really looks like true cornflower, but it's pretty nonetheless). It took a little while for us to get into the rhythm of painting, but once we got the hang of it...things moved along nicely.

Now onto the cracked/bruised rib...
Just as we were about to start painting, I was climbing onto the bathroom counter when I lost my footing and fell :( Good thing Jimmy was there to catch me, but he wasn't able to get to me in time before I slammed the left side of my rib cage onto the porcelain counter top. Needless to say, it hurt like hell! I was in a fair amount of pain the rest of the day Saturday and Sunday, but the REAL pain started on Monday morning. The doctor said it was delayed-onset muscle soreness and it was pretty normal with this type of injury. He gave me a prescription for some nice pain pills and said I should be feeling better in a few weeks. Now I feel like an old lady because it hurts to do just about anything. I've definitely learned my lesson!

All in all, the project was a success...I just have to learn to be a little more careful when climbing onto such a non-forgiving surface.

And the projects begin...

As of last night, Jimmy and I unpacked the final boxes (yay!!) I had no idea how many books I have...and my collection is only going to grow over the years. It's nice to have them all out and in a bookshelf in one of our guest bedrooms. We initially were only going to use our upstairs, middle bedroom as an office, but decided that it would make sense to have a bed in there as well. Until we add a little munchkin to our brood...there really is no reason for us to not take advantage of all the space we have in the house. Jimmy's sister and brother-in-law have been nice enough to offer us their guest bed from their house. How nice of them, right? We're now contemplating a few DIY projects to make the room a little less bland. These are the times I really wish I had even the slightest bit of vision or creativity...(hey HGTV, I have a few things I could use your help with!)

We are also in the process of repainting our master bathroom. We decided on a nice shade of blue...cornflower blue, to be exact. Either tonight or tomorrow we'll tape off the room and then the painting begins. To be honest, anything will be better than the hideous orange that's there right now. To refresh your memory:

Hopefully we'll be done before my BFF comes from San Antonio :) Will post our "AFTER" pictures as soon as we're finished.

Halloween 2009: Fail

I was so excited this year to be in a house for Halloween. I've always loved the idea of passing out candy to all the cute little trick or treater's on Halloween. This year, I was prepared!

Jimmy and I bought not one, but TWO large bags of candy at Costco (we didn't want to be the cheap new neighbors who ran out of candy). After our Costco trip, Jimmy fixed the doorbell so we would be able to hear when the little ghosts, football players, Hannah Montana's and cheerleaders were at our door...I tested the doorbell...success, it works!

I kept asking, "when do you think they'll come??" I was pretty darn excited.

Well, I'm still waiting because we didn't have a SINGLE trick or treater at our door!! Needless to say, I was beyond bummed. The houses directly surrounding our house didn't have their lights on, so we think the kids either couldn't see that our light was on (for those of you who haven't been to our house...we're at the end of the street at the cul-de-sac) OR they just didn't want to make the trek to the end of the street...lazy kids.

I didn't take a picture of our still-full candy bowl, but trust me...it's pretty depressing looking!

We now have about 10 lbs of candy and can't stop eating it. Tomorrow, I'm donating it to a doctor's office who will be sending it to the troops. At least I can do something good with it.

Jimmy suggested that next year we get a "search light" so the kids know we're open for business!!

I hope everyone had a better Halloween than we did!

We bought a house!

I have very exciting news to report...we will soon be homeowners! We bought a beautiful house in Allen. It's right on the border of Plano in the Custer/McDermott area. The official close date is Sept. 23rd- 3 weeks from today! We feel very fortunate to have found such a wonderful house and we can't wait to make it our HOME! Here are a few pics:

Don't you just love our trees?

Living room...the yellow is being repainted by the seller at this very moment!
We have a pool table! I can't wait to run the table in our game room!!

Needless to day, we are beyond ecstatic to move in to our first house! We have been "mentally" decorating for a while now and can't wait to do it for real!

New Adventures of Kristen...

I know, I know...it's been quite a long time since I've posted and I'm very sorry to my fans (I know I have at least 2). A lot has happened since Jimmy and I were married in April...

About 2 weeks after the wedding, we went on our honeymoon in Costa Rica. It was amazing! Hopefully we'll get to go back there one day. Here are few pics from our trip:

Newlyweds

We've been enjoying our time as husband & wife...it's not too different really, other than me having a new last name. Now I'm always Wright (I know, bad joke).

Well...I promise to be better at posting in the future. In the meantime, have a great weekend!
